IBM and NPTEL offers a Free Blockchain Program in India

IBM has partnered with Indian eLearning platform National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) to offer a 12-week online course titled “Blockchain Architecture Design and Use Cases.”

NPTEL is a joint initiative of some of the most reputed engineering colleges in India (IITs and IISc). The programme is funded by India’s education ministry.

This is free online course but the final exam will be conducted offline in select Indian cities. The exam is mandatory for Certification and has INR Rs. 1100 fees.

The course faculty will be Praveen Jayachandran, Blockchain and Smart Contracts researcher at IBM India, and Sandip Chakraborty, a professor at IIT Guwahati.

The Hindu newspaper online edition has reported the news. “The popularity of blockchain has moved from cryptocurrency to business applications across many industries such as insurance, finance, supply chain logistics, digital identity, healthcare and public sector. IBM’s collaboration with India’s leading academic minds to create a blockchain curriculum is a reflection of our commitment to enabling the technology to realize its full potential, while also addressing the increased demand for adequate skills for students and developers,” Mr. Praveen Jayachandran said to The Hindu. IBM will co-certify the course.

According to the course content listed at https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc18_cs47/preview, it focuses on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hyperledger on IBM blockchain.
