Self-driving cars brings Baidu and China Mobile together for Advance Intelligent Telecommunications
Self-driving and autonomous vehicles or cars have been the primary area for auto industry. There are is a whole lot of chase to implement and deploy autonomous self-driving cars. Artificial Intelligence, machine learning is one of the key factors driving innovations in self-driving cars. Self-driving and autonomous vehicles or cars are future and there requires a lot of collaboration among industry players. The key players for autonomous self-driving vehicles are Google, GM, Waymo, Daimler-Bosch, Ford, BMW-Intel-FCA, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Baidu, Chinese search giant, and China Mobile today announced a comprehensive strategic cooperation in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, big data, and 5G, leveraging their respective core strengths therein.
“AI is rapidly being integrated into all facets of life, bringing innumerable new opportunities for the development of the industry. The combination of AI and telecommunications has huge room for innovation and will create more new experiences for users,” said Baidu Chairman and CEO Robin Li at the signing ceremony in Beijing. The signing ceremony is also attended by Robin Li, China Mobile Chairman Bing Shang and senior executives from the two companies
In addition to the in-depth cooperation in network traffic, channels, and basic services, the two companies will use Baidu’s leading technologies and algorithms in the areas of image recognition, voice recognition and natural language processing to explore creative applications of AI in the telecommunications industry, said the announcement.
The major areas of collaboration are the autonomous self-driving vehicles and the commercialisation of AI in intelligent devices and connected homes. 5G is the fundamental technology for self-driving autonomous vehicles and participation of China mobile would accelerate the development of the overall ecosystem.
In the future, the cooperation aims to bring China Mobile into Baidu’s Apollo platform, develop the connected car market and explore the integration of DuerOS into intelligent vehicle systems.
Baidu has an open platform Apollo. It is being positioned as the “Android of autonomous driving”. Apollo has over 100 partners since its launch last year, including OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and startups.
This marks the first time that China Mobile has customized a multi-application, discounted data product for an Internet company. This offering is expected to be officially launched as soon as the end of June.
Baidu and China Mobile collective collaboration serve as a win-win situation in AI and telecommunications space for both companies.
