Apple acquires autonomous vehicle startup Drive.ai
Apple acquired autonomous vehicle startup Drive.ai along with their engineers, reported Axios. The financial terms of the acquisition are not available.
Founded in 2015, California based startup, Drive.ai raised USD $77 Million over five funding rounds, according to CrunchBase. Axios reports that Apple bags Drive.ai possibly for less than USD $77 Million. The company offers its shuttle services with their autonomous self-driving cars in Arlington, and Frisco, Texa.
Apple has been exploring its entry into the self-driving car segment and was working on Project Titan. CNBC reported previously that Apple had cut over 200 employees from Project Titan.
The latest acquihire of Drive.ai confirms that Apple is still interested in its autonomous self-driving vehicle efforts. Apple also purchased Drive.ai's autonomous cars and other assets, according to Axios.
There are no official Announcements either from Apple or Drive.ai yet.
