Gyrfalcon offers Automotive AI Chip Technology to Automakers

Gyrfalcon introduced its matrix-based application-specific chips for all purposes of AI for self-driving vehicles.

Matrix-based chip-designs for self-driving AI equipment results in cost reductions and a performance-to-efficiency ratio close to 5 TOPS/W. GTI's matrix-based AI chips provide 9.3 TOPS/W (Lightspeeur 2801) or 24 TOPS/W (Lightspeeur 2803), which already bring twice to five times the improvement on that ratio, the announcement claims.

The announcement further claimed that licensing Gyrfalcon's technology can help automakers bring production quality AI chips within 18 months.

Gyrfalcon Technology is the world’s leading developer of high-performance AI accelerators that are known for their low power consumption, low-cost packaging and small-sized chips.

Executive Opinion

Senior AI Research and Automotive Research Director for IHS Markit (based in Munich, Germany) Luca De Ambroggi said, "The need for higher performance, machine-learning devices to advance autonomous driving technology means suppliers must develop AI-based intellectual property or license it from companies like Gyrfalcon for silicon solutions to achieve faster processing and lower power consumption."

An automotive industry executive recently claimed that it would take as long as three years from start to finish to develop a high performing, energy efficient chip that supports self-driving and other AI functions, the announcement notes.

IP Licensing for the AI Chips

GTI offers IP licensing based on its production level silicon.  IP licensing has been packaged with development tools, technical documentation, development hardware offerings, chip design expertise and technical support.

The announcement stated that the new technology delivers the highest ratio of energy efficiency combined with high performance. It further states that GTI customers are even designing the chips into commercial products, such as smart homes & offices, consumer electronics, mobile phones & computers, baby & pet monitors, robot vacuums, defect detection equipment, edge servers, automobiles and AI data centre solutions.

GTI claims that automakers applying for the license can expect to have a leading-edge AI Chip in their vehicles which provide them opportunities for industry leadership. The announcement mentioned that a leading car manufacturer recently announced replaced the use of GPUs. The inferred car manufacture started using their own matrix-based, application specific chip designs for supporting AI and self-driving in vehicles. This development underlines the Gyrfalcon Technology's vision of promoting matrix-based application-specific chips for AI
