Commvault revealed new solutions to unify cloud storage

Commvault has recently revealed new capabilities for its Hedvig Software-defined Storage Solutions.

This year, Commvault acquired the software-defined storage (SDS) startup, Hedvig. The transaction size was worth $225 Million.

The new software designed storage capabilities will allow the enterprises to automate and simplify storage administration, save time and reduce storage costs, says the announcement.

Among the new capabilities are built-in data center availability, multi-data center cluster management, along with multi-tenant data center support that could allow service providers to offer storage solutions across the hybrid cloud environments.

Hedvig new capabilities also include container storage interface support (CSI). It is now possible for enterprises to leverage Commvault to manage container orchestrators such as Kubernetes.

Executive Opinion

Chief Storage Strategist, Commvault, Avinash Lakshman, said, "New capabilities converge many of the latest storage, container and cloud technologies, allowing enterprises to automate manual infrastructure management processes and simplify their multi-cloud environments. These capabilities enhance Commvault's value to enterprises today. They also show how the integration of technologies into Commvault's solutions portfolio will deliver enterprises the industry standard solution in a multi-cloud world."

Commvault and Hedvig's Solutions

Hedvig Software Solutions address the data sovereignty problems and allow hybrid and multi-cloud operations to be run natively. The Hedvig solution also reportedly makes operations efficient by streamlining processes on a single platform.

The multi-cloud environments, DevOps, DevSecOps and cloud-native applications along with containers and microservices is the reality today.

Commvault will utilize Hedvig technologies to improve its automation of data management and storage provisioning. The company also plans to enhance its support for application containers and microservices.

The company is striving to unify its storage and data management with the help of Hedvig's integration and other enhancements, the announcement notes.
