Amazon Web Services (AWS) selected as Official Cloud, AI and ML Provider of PGA Tour
PGA TOUR, a premier membership organization for touring professional golfers, has recently selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its Official Cloud Partner.
AWS is going to help PGA TOUR with computing, media, analytics, storage, and database services to process and distribute the video footage from the tournaments.
Executive Opinion
PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan, said, "This transformational partnership with AWS will give our fans the opportunity to experience the PGA TOUR like never before. Growing and diversifying our fan base is a top priority for us, and thanks to the collaboration and innovation from AWS, we are creating more ways to experience the game of golf while personalizing our content to enable fans to engage with the tournaments and players they support."
Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services, Inc, said, "The world’s top sports organizations – for instance, the NFL, NHL, Formula One, NASCAR, Bundesliga, and now the PGA TOUR – continue to turn to AWS to help them innovate for their fans and players at an unprecedented rate. The partnership and experience we create with the TOUR will be unique. Unlike other sports, there’s more than one ball in play on a golf course, which makes it harder for fans to follow how every player is performing. Our collaboration with the TOUR will change the way that fans will be able to connect with the sport by giving them real-time access to virtually every moment on the course and letting them determine how they experience the game."
AWS and PGA Tour Partnership
AWS also revealed that it will offer different ways for users to engage with the tour’s content. AWS has now become an official Deep Learning cloud provider, Machine Learning cloud provider, and Artificial Intelligence cloud provider for the PGA TOUR.
While the raw footage will be captured by the organizers, AWS will use this content to offer digital experiences. PGA Tour will develop and build a data lake for the real-time and historic multimedia content on the AWS simple storage services called the Amazon S3. Under the agreement, 100 years of media content will be migrated to Amazon storage. The media content will include the images, video, and audio dating back to the 1928 Los Angeles Open, notes the announcement.
AWS implementation will also help organizers as well as content providers to search, review, annotate and package new content. TOUR will also leverage AWS to process and distribute OTT content making the video suitable for viewing on a wide range of platforms.
